OR SM01 Eastern Native Pollinator Mix

Purpose: Native pollinator habitat for bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects across eastern Oregon’s basins, foothills, and plateaus.

Best Fit: Eastern Oregon only — sagebrush steppe, dry valleys, benches, and open rangeland east of the Cascade Mountains.

Built with hardy native forbs and grasses that tolerate wind, cold winters, and summer drought, it delivers early-, mid-, and late-season bloom without overwhelming sites with overly aggressive species. The grass component provides light structure and soil stability, while flowering species drive nectar, pollen, and seed production. This mix is ideal for landowners seeking long-term pollinator function without the expense or maintenance challenges of high-input pollinator blends. It is intentionally not recommended for western Oregon, where prairie ecology and rainfall regimes differ significantly.

Why Choose This Mix:

  • Designed specifically for eastern Oregon ecology
  • Reliable bloom window from spring through fall
  • Supports native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators
  • Compatible with CRP, range improvement, and conservation plantings
  • Lower maintenance once established

This mix is suitable for use under the following NRCS practices (verify with your local conservation planner):

  • 327 – Conservation Cover
  • 645 – Upland Wildlife Habitat Management

Meets regional guidance from USDA Intermountain pollinator technical notes when used east of the Cascade Mountains.

Key Notes

  • Not recommended for western Oregon or the Willamette Valley
  • Best seeded on well-drained loam to sandy soils
  • Performs well at 9–14 inches of annual precipitation
  • Can be drilled or broadcast with light soil coverage
