WY SM01 Low-Moisture Pollinator Mix

The species selection emphasizes drought-tolerant native wildflowers that provide reliable bloom across the growing season, supported by a limited component of native grasses for establishment stability. Late-season flowering species help extend nectar and pollen availability during periods when many dryland sites offer few floral resources.

Yarrow (0.1), Ricegrass, Indian  (0.35), Sagebrush, Wyoming Big (0.05), Beeplant, Rocky Mountain (0.75), Prairie Clover, White (0.15), Prairie Clover, Purple (0.2), Bottlebrush squirreltail (0.25), Rabbitbrush, rubber (0.2), Blanketflower (0.75), Flax, Lewis (0.6), Wheatgrass, Bluebunch (0.45), Coneflower, Prairie (Long-headed) (0.1), Aster, Smooth Blue (0.12). Created January 2026.

This mix is well suited for dryland pollinator plantings, wildlife habitat enhancement, and conservation practices where pollinator value is desired under challenging moisture conditions.

Recommended Uses

  • Dry upland sites and ridgetops
  • South- and west-facing slopes
  • Low-precipitation and drought-prone areas
  • Arid rangeland pollinator habitat
  • Sites where standard pollinator mixes have poor establishment success

Not recommended for: riparian areas, wet–mesic sites, or locations with prolonged soil saturation.

Planting & Implementation Notes

Seeding Method:

  • Drill seeding is preferred to ensure consistent depth and seed placement on dry sites.
  • Broadcast seeding may be used where drilling is not feasible;
    • light packing or rolling is recommended to improve seed-to-soil contact.

Seeding Depth:
Seed shallow. Many native forbs establish best when placed near the soil surface.

Timing:

  • Seed late fall (dormant planting) or early spring to take advantage of natural moisture.
    • Avoid late spring or summer seeding on dry sites unless adequate precipitation is expected.

Site Preparation:
Proper weed control prior to seeding is critical on low-moisture sites, as competition can significantly reduce establishment success.

Total seeding rate: 4.07 PLS lbs/acre
Seed density: 31 seeds per square foot

Confirm site suitability, seeding method, and species selection with your conservation planner prior to use.
