WY SM01 Riparian & Wet–Mesic Native Mix

The species selection emphasizes native grasses, sedges, and rushes that provide strong soil and bank stabilization, along with a complementary suite of native forbs that support pollinators and wildlife throughout the growing season. Deep-rooted perennial grasses and moisture-tolerant sedge and rush species help anchor soils, reduce erosion, and improve long-term site resilience following disturbance.

Yarrow (0.05), Milkweed, Showy (0.05), Sedge, nebraska (0.75), Tufted Hair Grass (0.5), Wheatgrass, Slender (1.25), Rush, Baltic (0.06), Wildrye, Basin (0.5), Aster, Heath (0.03). Created January 2026.

This mix is well suited for riparian restoration projects, wet–mesic draws, stream corridor rehabilitation, and conservation practices where maintaining vegetation under fluctuating moisture conditions is a priority.

Recommended Uses

  • Riparian corridors and streambanks
  • Wet meadows and floodplains
  • Seasonally saturated draws and bottoms
  • Areas with periodic flooding or fluctuating water tables
  • Bank stabilization and post-disturbance riparian recovery

Not recommended for: upland sites, dry benches, or low-moisture rangeland settings.

Planting & Implementation Notes

Seeding Method:

  • Drill seeding is preferred where site conditions allow, using shallow placement to ensure good soil contact.
  • Broadcast seeding may be used on rough or inaccessible terrain;
    • when broadcasting, follow with light packing or rolling to improve seed-to-soil contact.

Seeding Depth:

  • Seed shallow.
    • Many riparian species, particularly sedges and rushes, perform best when placed near the soil surface.

Timing:

  • Best seeded late fall (dormant planting) or early spring when adequate soil moisture is present.
    • Avoid seeding during extended dry periods.

Site Preparation:
Control existing weeds prior to seeding and minimize soil disturbance where bank stability is a concern.

Total seeding rate: 3.19 PLS lbs/acre
Seed density: 58 seeds per square foot

Confirm site suitability, seeding method, and species selection with your conservation planner prior to use.
